About
After two sold out annual shows, the Melbourne Kathak Festival returns.
Step into the enchanting world of Kathak with the Melbourne Kathak Festival. This festival showcases Kathak, an Indian classical dance form, while amalgamating with Hindustani and Western classical music.
Like Kathak is a confluence of many cultures, this festival celebrates the different cultures of the Indian subcontinent, valuing the art of multicultural and multilingual storytelling.
All modes of storytelling, from literature, language and poetry, to theatre, dance and music, will come together to create an intercultural dialogue.
Through a warm and intimate experience, traditional knowledge will pass to future generations so that the stories of the past have a place in our future.
The event includes thematic performances by young emerging South Asian artists residing in Australia. The thematic musical performances will captivate audiences of all ages.
The highlight of this year’s festival will be a special performance by Padma Shri Guru Shovana Narayan, who is traveling from India. Shovana Narayan is India's most celebrated Kathak Guru and maestro of the present age, a living legend who has blazed a trail in Kathak. An acknowledged and exquisite diamond of her art style, an outstanding dancer, a consummate artiste and choreographer. Don't miss your chance to witness the magic of Shovana Narayan.
