AOPAP Young Artist Series Concert 2

The Australian Orienta Performing Arts Foundation (AOPAF) presents an afternoon of musical discovery, featuring Melbourne countertenor Anderson Mokyiu and konghou performer Zixi Song. Bringing together the expressive beauty of the countertenor voice and the shimmering resonance of the Chinese konghou, this concert celebrates young talent and the meeting of musical traditions.

At just 16, Anderson has established an impressive foundation in classical singing. He received a choral scholarship at St Patrick’s Cathedral, Melbourne, at nine and later became Head Chorister. Beginning vocal studies with Susan Breen-Clarke at 11, he made his operatic debut with Victorian Opera in A Christmas Carol at 12. His achievements include the AMEB Gold Award and First Prize in the Under 17 Open Aria Division of the American Protégé International Vocal Competition, earning an invitation to perform at Carnegie Hall. In 2026, he was appointed a Victorian Opera Youth Ambassador.

Australia-based konghou performer Zixi Song combines Western classical training with a deep commitment to Chinese traditional music. She studied Asian Studies and piano performance at the University of Melbourne before completing a Master of Music Studies in Performance at the Sydney Conservatorium, specialising in konghou. Her teachers include pianist Dr Tamara Smolyar and konghou musician Wu Lin, with additional guidance from harpist Alice Giles.

Zixi has performed at the Sydney Opera House and Melbourne Recital Centre. In 2026, she won the Professional Category Gold Prize at the Dunhuang Cup Australia and New Zealand Regional Competition. Alongside performing, she teaches konghou, harp and piano, sharing Chinese musical traditions with Australian audiences.

Through its Young Artist Series, AOPAF provides a platform for talented musicians to develop their artistry and connect with the community. Join us to celebrate these two distinctive artists, whose different musical journeys offer audiences an opportunity to discover the beauty of voice and strings.
